Welcome to the North West Regional Defence and Security Cluster.

Welcome to the North West Regional Defence and Security Cluster.

The North West has a very strong heritage in Defence operating across five operational domains of Land, Sea, Air, Space and Cyber, which means the sector interlinks and underpins large elements of the aerospace, maritime, nuclear and digital industries.

The region is the home of some of the world’s leading companies and academic institutions, as well as advanced research capabilities that are highly collaborative with the sector, driving the knowledge economy through applied research and education, benefiting industry, the economy, future workforce development and the wider society. The North West is also the planned new home for the National Cyber Force, which aims to bring economic stimulus and other tangible benefits to the region.

The initiative is supported by the MOD through the Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) to encourage our focus on three main areas of activity:

01.

Improving collaboration and knowledge sharing across all organisations from the Defence Primes, Small-to-Medium Enterprises, Academia and Government Science and research groups

02.

To support innovation and research to develop and accelerate new technologies and capabilities in the sector.

03.

To establish and develop more effective routes for the implementation and commercialisation of newly developed innovations and encourage crossover applications of new technology.

The cluster will drive to increase defence spending with companies in the region, raise the profile of regional Defence and Security (D&S) capability to stimulate greater sector knowledge, business, economic growth and productivity across the North West. It will work with partners to stimulate the ecosystem and maximise the abundant opportunities we have in the region.
